In a letter (1900) from Emma Hubbard (née EVANS, Emma jnr's mother,) she writes to Joseph F. Phelps (1829-1922) saying that Henry Walker is on his way to the Cape, as Captain in the Royal West Surrey Militia Regiment. See page 183 of 'A Memoir in Letters' by Penelope Forrest.
Emma had died in 1891 aged only 28, so Henry would have been a widower for 55 years. (I don't think he married again?)
