Table showing Frances deBrissac’s immediate family and forebears as far as can be traced.

The revocation of the Edict of Nantes in October 1685 by Louis XIV would have seen the first two generations of this tree being migrants, fleeing from France. The family understanding and evidence is, they went first to Utrecht.

By the time we get to Peter (Pierre) Abraham de Brissac, we have someone comfortably employing others in the East End of London – a hub of manufacturing and wealth production.  He was a manufacturer dealing in silk weaving.  It was his skill and knowledge of the continuous (or endless) web engineering, that enabled John Dickinson and Co.  to produce paper as a continuous product instead of short sheets.
