Dear Arthur,
Do you think I should go on writing
abusive letters if you were to write & tell me how sorry you are, & how you
would never do anything of the kind as long as you lived again? I have a good
mind to give you another – particularly as Anne has sent back Madlle's
without its envelope which is a thing I never forget or forgive. I am not going
to send it you – but I may tell you I had another from her on Thursday. She is
still at Pesmes grinding away there again – think of her remembering my birthday
there.
This is Friday night very late & I
start tomorrow (1st) for Hastings at 8 so I can't
write now & have not had time somehow to finish this though it was so long ago
begun.
Goodbye. Perhaps I will write to you
again someday if you send me word that you are sorry for all your misdeeds. You
see I return to that. Well, I forgive you – I won't though, ever, if you do it
again.
Your affte
Cousin
Emma

is the only year within the possible range for this to have been written.
